- Job Title: Obstetrician Gynaecologist

The selected candidate will report to the Project Medical Referent at the MSF Dagahaley Project. This position is only open to Kenyan nationals.
Main purpose
Implement gynecological and obstetric procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery, and neonatology risks. This will be done in accordance with MSF pol-icies, protocols, and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.
Accountabilities
- Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines, and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
- In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists.
- Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development, and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people’s capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department.
- Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required, and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available. This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff, the management
Specific Objectives for the position.
- Provide hands-on support in managing complicated obstetric and gynecological cases, including high-risk pregnancies, Caesarean sections, and complicated deliveries by FGM.
- Mentor project teams in diagnostic approaches (history taking, clinical examination, and differential diagnosis) and techniques, including obstetric POCUS, to improve patient care and decision-making.
- Daily work and word round with the maternity team for improving timely decision-making and an appropriate plan for monitoring of inpatients
- Reinforce routine emergencies obstetrical care refresher training on specific common diagnoses found in Dagahaley (Preeclampsia, abruptio placenta, …)
- Conduct targeted training sessions for maternity, OT, and medical teams on life-saving obstetric and gynecological skills.
- Review and analyze MDN (Maternal Death Notification) data to identify gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Review and follow up on high-risk cases and near-miss incidents to ensure continuous learning and improvement in clinical practices.
- Support the implementation of best practices in maternal and neonatal care, ensuring alignment with MSF protocols and guidelines.
- Work closely with the Project Medical Referent (PMR), Deputy Project Medical Referent (DPMR), MAM, MWAM, Obs/Gyn advisor, and medical coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the support plan.
- Provide regular feedback and reports to the medical coordination and Obs/Gyn advisor on progress, challenges, and recommendations.

- Reduction in preventable maternal mortalities and morbidities.
- Enhanced diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills among maternity midwives, MDs and OT teams.
- Strengthened referral pathways and coordination with Garissa for high-risk cases.
- Improved quality of care and patient safety in maternal health services.
BEmONC = basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care = Administration of antibiotics, oxytocics, anticonvulsants, manual removal of the placenta, removal of retained products following abortion, assisted vaginal delivery, preferably with vacuum extractor and newborn care including neonatal resuscitation.
CEmONC = comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care = the full package of BEmONC Plus; surgery (caesarean section, hysterectomy, laparatomy), safe blood transfusion and care to sick and low birth weight newborns.
Requirements
- Education Essential: Bachelor of Medicine with specialization in Gynaecology
- Experience Essential :at least 2 years certified work experience in Obstetrics Gynaecology Desirable:previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
- Languages English and Swahili ; Somali language would be an asset.
- Knowlede Essential computer literacy (word, excel).
