Our Work
Where We Work
MSF’s medical teams work in more than 70 countries to provide lifesaving assistance where it is needed the most. We work in conflicts, epidemics, following natural disasters and where people would not otherwise have access to medical care. As well as responding to emergencies, we provide care through our longer-term projects in places where people wouldn’t otherwise be able to access medical care.
Our Programmes
Projects in Eastern Africa
MSF has some of its largest medical projects across East Africa including in South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia and Burundi. In these countries, MSF runs hospitals, health centres and mobile clinics, and launches emergency projects as spikes in healthcare needs arise. MSF also has a regional office in Kenya, which supports our medical programmes in the country and those surrounding it, recruits staff to help run our operations around the world and raises awareness of humanitarian crises that we are responding to.
Ethiopia
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) resumed activities in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Gambella, Somali and Tigray regions in 2022, while continuing to work in Afar and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR), providing healthcare in response to overlapping crises.
Kenya
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) responds to multiple emergencies and public health challenges in Kenya, including disease outbreaks and urban violence
Somalia
Our commitment to accessing and assisting people in need remains steadfast.
South Sudan
We run one of our largest assistance programmes worldwide in South Sudan, responding to the many health needs resulting from ongoing conflict, extreme weather events and disease outbreaks.
Sudan
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) continued to respond to multiple health issues during a turbulent year in Sudan, where violence and extreme weather caused mass displacement.
Tanzania
We provide assistance to Burundian refugees living in Nduta camp in the north-west of Kigoma region in Tanzania.
Uganda
In Uganda, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) addresses gaps in healthcare for adolescents and responds to the needs of refugees. In 2022, we also assisted with COVID-19 vaccinations and responded to an Ebola outbreak.
How We Are Run
We are a global network owned and run by our staff, past and present. Collectively, we make sure that MSF stays true to its mission and principles. At any given time, this network has tens of thousands of members. Members of the MSF network bring their professional experience and knowledge to respond quickly and with great impact when they are needed, working in MSF projects in more than 70 countries.
Our supporters are a vital part of the network - their generosity and support helps fund everything we do. This allows us to stay independent, neutral and impartial - and to access those in greatest need quickly.
